The 2006 Highmark
Childhood Obesity Summit: Calling the Community to Action

Today’s children are at a greater risk of developing obesity-related health problems than any generation before them. According to the American Obesity Association, 45 percent of children age 6 to 19 are overweight or obese. A problem this complex calls for a variety of solutions from a collaborative group within the community that includes families and individuals.

In that spirit, Highmark will present The Childhood Obesity Summit: Uniting Communities to Make a Healthy Impact on September 16, 2006. The summit will convene stakeholders with diverse perspectives – such as physicians, community leaders, educators and policymakers – to showcase and discuss collaborative solutions. Working together, we can help create a healthier environment for the most valuable resource in southwestern Pennsylvania – our children.
